Speaking in tongues // Smile Makers Frenchman review*

If you’re an avid reader of my blog, you’ll know that I’m not afraid to talk about sex – in fact, I highly encourage it. I’m very lucky in that I have a very sex-positive group of friends with which I can talk about orgasms, masturbating and my favourite sex toys. Under that category falls the Smile Makers Collection.

Smile Makers are a brand I’ve worked with before and loved, so when they contacted me again I was ecstatic. If you read my previous review, you’ll see I quite enjoyed using the Tennis Coach. This time round I picked the Frenchman to try out as I’ve never seen any kind of vibrator like it and I was really curious. This toy is marketed as one which mimics the feeling you’d get from a tongue. Being someone who enjoys both clitoral stimulation and cunnilingus, I was keen to see if it lived up to expectations.

The Frenchman is definitely a toy which requires a little experimentation to work out, but once you figure out how to use it properly it provides some really nice sensations. One thing I prefer about this is how thin the silicone is in the flexible part of the toy – the unusual shape really feels like it directs the vibration where you want it to go. The vibration settings also feel more powerful than I was expecting having previously used the Tennis Coach which wasn’t as strong, so that’s worth keeping in mind, depending on what you enjoy more.

As far as I’m aware, all Smile Makers toys come with four vibration speeds and one pulsation setting – with the Frenchman I prefer the vibration speeds over the pulsation, which I wasn’t expecting.

One thing I’ve said before about Smile Makers is that I’m not keen on the names of their products – all of them have /masucline/ names or are named after men and I feel like for such a sex-positive brand, it’s a bit heteronormative to not only give them masculine names, but personalities too and somewhat exclusive of LGBT+ people. However, I do appreciate a good pun and that’s what they deliver with the personalities they give to the toys.

I also appreciate what I believe Smile Makers are trying to do, as I feel the personalities normalise using sex toys a bit. From my experience, a lot of people are more nervous about buying toys than they are about sleeping with people so by giving the toys personalities, it makes it seem a bit less scary and that’s a great thing for beginners. Their cute little smile logo stamped into the bottom of each toy is also a great reminder that orgasms and masturbating are both very natural and it’s ok to do so!

Another great thing about the Smile Makers toys is that at 40db, they’re the quietest sex toys I’ve ever used, perfect for if you don’t live alone and would prefer a little discretion. The packaging is also very discreet – last time mine came in a clear plastic envelope which was fine as I live with friends and I’m not shy about ordering sex toys, but this time round it came in a plain box with discreet labeling, which is much better and about the standard no matter what sex toy website you order from these days.

Thank you so much to Smile Makers for sending me the Frenchman! If you’re interested in checking out any of their products, they are available on the Smile Makers websiteΒ and other participating stores and priced at Β£34.95 each.
